Why pick PunchyStuff? Because I want you to love punch needle as much as I do. Because I make all of my own kits that have the right tools, supplies, and instructions to get you up and punching right away - without the frustration from a lot of the other kits you get from big box stores.
I get messages daily from frustrated crafters who want to try punch needle, but don’t know where to start. Or they’re frustrated because they bought a kit from a big box store, and can’t get anything to work. So they want to give up. Or they feel like they wasted a lot of time and money on a kit or supplies they can’t use.
That’s because a lot of those kits don’t have the right combination of punch needle, fabric, and yarn size WITH GREAT INSTRUCTIONS. Or because they’re made cheaply by big brands who don’t know the tricks to start punching successfully.
Save yourself the time and frustration with a PunchyStuff kit, so you know you get everything you need right from the start. And unlike big box stores, I am here and always happy to answer questions if you run into any issues while you make your kit.
I am a real maker, who’s punched hundreds of my own project with all of the tools and supplies I sell, so you can start your punch needle journey frustration-free.

PUNCH NEEDLE FAQ:
What is punch needle embroidery?
Punch needle embroidery is a stitching technique that uses a punch needle tool to create loops of yarn or embroidery thread through monk’s cloth, primitive linen, or weaver’s cloth to create a design, lettering, or pattern. It is an easy craft to learn and pick up quickly!
How does a punch needle yarn stay in the fabric?
Punch needle loops stay because they are being held by the fabric’s weave. Every time you punch, the needle is actually poking through the weave in the fabric. Once the needle is punched in, the yarn pushes through the weave. Then when the needled is pulled back, the weave moves back into place and a loop is created. The tension from the fabric moving back into place and the tension from the loops being closely packed together, keep your yarn in the fabric. That’s one of the reasons why if the weave is too loose, your yarn won’t stay in place.
Does punch needle embroidery use yarn or embroidery floss?
Both, actually! But you need two different tools and two different foundation fabrics. A larger needle and monk's cloth should be used for needle punching with yarn. A smaller, thinner needle and weaver’s cloth should be used for needle punching with embroidery floss. I have both in my shop. Just read the product description or message me for help if you’re still unsure!
What is the best fabric for punch needle?
Monk’s cloth with 12 holes per square inch is ideal for punch needle. You can also use primitive linen. Burlap can also work as a budget option.
What is the difference between punch needle and rug hooking?
The two techniques are compared as similar in that they create the same stitch, but in different ways with different tools. The punch needle pushes the yarn or thread through the holes in the fabric, while rug hooking hooks the yarn and PULLS it through the fabric.
